    Project Details

    Description

Using the concept of Bildung as a framework, the project aims to explore underlying aspirations, structures, and dynamics of change taking place in engineering education and practice through conversations between engineering, social sciences, and the humanities by exploring:

    1) intersections between the German concept of Bildung and engineering education and practice,
    2) historical and contemporary concepts of Bildung and analogues in other cultural contexts along with their intersections in engineering,
    3) how related understandings, policies, and approaches have developed through emerging related research agendas and their sustainability,
    4) technological experts´ need for Bildung in relation to social responsibility, democracy and ethics.
    5) disagreements, controversies, and failures in considering the concept of Bildung in conversations between engineering, social sciences, and the humanities.
