An Ibero-American coproduction forum and an International Congress of Ibero-American Animation are generated parallel to the awards.

The awards are named in honour of the creator of the first animated feature film; in 1917 Quirino Cristiani directed `El Apóstol´, an Argentinian production where 58.000 drawings in 35 mm were used besides several miniatures.
