This project explores how to cope with uncertainty and non-knowledge in welfare work. Welfare professionals are often required to work in situations characterized by uncertainty and non-knowledge, causing frustrations not only for the system user (the individual in need of help) but also for the welfare professional. This project is motivated by such situations to explore and discuss how the training of welfare professionals at VIA can integrate uncertainty and non-knowledge to empower them to deal with situations like this.
The research questions of the project are: What is uncertainty and non-knowledge, and how do they relate to certainty and knowledge in welfare professional work? How can welfare professionals cope with uncertainty and non knowledge in ways that empower them? And crucially: How can these coping strategies be integrated into their training in ethically responsible ways?
