In recent years there has been an increasing interest in professional development amongst educators in higher education. A widespread goal is to develop the instructional and pedogogical competencies in order to raise the students’ learning outcomes. A common approach to this professional development is to establish or organize learning communities amongst the HE educators. This project aims to 1) identify what characteristics of learning communities are defined in the existing literature and 2) which effects (positive and negative) are associated with learning communities, specifically regarding educators instructional and pedagogical competencies.
