Description
Film and Media for Education
“FAME. Take 2” is an international project funded by Nordplus that aims to provide in-depth knowledge and skills on media and film literacy to teachers of general education and to encourage and inspire them not only to use these skills and knowledge in their own classes, but also to serve as an example for other teachers. The project is also a continuation of the Nordplus Horizontal project „Media Literacy, Reuse and Heritage in Education”, which was successful in organizing an extensive competence development conference in Tallinn in January, 2019.
In the context of 21st century skills and competencies the approach for teaching future generations is changing rapidly with media, information as well as film literacies being among the most necessary to aqcuire. While children get acquainted with technologies and media at an ever-younger age, the ability to analyse, evaluate as well as to create quality media content is something to be taught with the help of teachers and tutors starting allready in primary school.
Within the framework of the project two competency development seminars for teachers are to be carried out (October 2019 and April 2020), within which 100 teachers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark and Finland will have the opportunity to hear inspirational and thought provoking presentations from world-renowned experts in the field of film and media literacy (Sirkku Kotilainen, Danish Film Institute), as well as take part in practical hands-on workshops to learn how to integrate film and media literacy into the teaching process and how to use these skills as a tool for developing innovative teaching materials. The seminars will be structured in a way as to start the day with in-depth theoretical knowledge on media and film literacy and why these competencies are crucial the 21st century classroom and following hands-on practical workshops on various examples on how to integrate and tailor these competencies for each individual classroom. In groups of 15-20 people these teachers will have the opportunity to acquire the basics of animation, the specifics of creating documentaries and journalistic articles, to learn how to recognize propaganda and fake news, to take part in a meme workshop and to learn more about artificial intelligence and the language of films. The content of the workshops is created in cooperation with all project partners and their associate organisations
