Sustainable language education - Reconfiguring the system through complexity-oriented action research

  • Daugaard, Line Møller (Principle researcher)

Project Details

Description

This project approaches language education from a complex dynamic systems (CDST) perspective, zooming in on the language education system of a particular school, exploring and describing it through participatory qualitative methods. The application of CDST to language education is a novel approach urgently needed by the language education system which is currently in a crisis in Denmark and internationally due to a range of societal changes such as the spread of global English, the growing influence of digital technologies, especially AI, and increased linguistic diversity. These changes have led to systemic imbalances in the language education system, rendering it unsustainable. The project aims to reconfigure the system through systemic action research (SAR), employing a holistic and practice-oriented methodology to create a model of
sustainable language education. The combination of CDST and SAR will advance international research within language education and local school practice.
