Abstract
The rate of women requesting caesarean section on maternal request (MRS) has been in-creasing both internationally and in Denmark. A number of qualitative studies have specifi-cally invesitated women´s experiences of choosing MRS, but the researchresults are isolated and therefor repeating themselves. This warrants a need to integrate and synthesize findings from these studies, in order to facilitate the availability of qualitative research.
The purpose of this study is to develop a qualitative metasynthesis, as described by Sande-lowski and Barroso, on the thoughts and experiences that underlie women's choice of MRS.
16 qualitiative articles was found through a systematic search, in electronic databases, and eight of these were included in my study. I subsequently extracted and integrated findings by producing a qualitative metasummary. I synthesized the abstracted categories, through a taxonomic analysis, to the new knowledge that women who choose MRS, experience "Be-ing emotionally trapped in the untameable body". This qualitative metasynthesis has con-tributed to developing a deeper understanding of women's perspective, which has not previ-ously been available.
