Abstract

This book highlights various pathways to children and young people’s individual and collective participation in child protection by providing recent international examples of participatory research and practices by children, young people, and child protection practitioners. The participatory approaches include child protection practice and system innovations initiated and implemented by children and young people. They also encompass participatory practice methods, tools, and programs that professionals utilize in the public and nonprofit child protection sectors. The book showcases a multitude of “participation generators” (the conditions in which children and young people’s individual and collective participation occurs) in four continents: Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. It analyzes and discusses the benefits and outcomes of children and young people’s participation. The examples can inspire children and young people, children’s rights activists, child protection and international development practitioners, students, scholars, and public policymakers to initiate, design, and implement participatory practices protecting children and young people from maltreatment.
