COVID-19's influence of the teaching of nursing students - now and in the future

Abstract

Introduktion:
This poster presents teachers' and nursing students' perspectives and experiences with online teaching. Based on years of experience with online education and online education/teaching, the presenters reflect on the differences between formalized online education and online teaching caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 caused a special situation for education, as educational institutions were closed, and all teaching took place online.
Background:
Our research has shown that students in formalized online education develop digitized communities of learning supported by experienced online teachers. The Covid-19 situation was a different scenario neither the teachers nor the students had chosen the online format and were not prepared for this way of teaching and learning. The experiences from both students and teachers have been collected, analyzed and compared to existing knowledge from both formalized online education and campus-based education.
Results:
Examining the past, it becomes clear that global pandemics, exemplified by COVID-19, are reoccurring events that warrants preparation. This poster emphasizes how experiebces from online teaching of students during the Covid-19 can enrich campus-based teaching by using blended learning.
Conclucion and perspectives:
The general considerations of the online teaching during Covid-19 to future online teaching:
- Teachers' and students' digital literacy and roles are challenged
- Teacheres were challenged by lack of planning and preparation
- Students struggled in rapidly expanding their learning strategies
- Students were challenged by lack of social relations with fellow students.
- Students had a possibility to structure their learning process
- Students had to be prepared prior to the lectures and got more in-depth learning
