Desire as a Way of Knowing

Abstract

It is seldom that we apply the lenses of desire to epistemology. This is not strange; desire appears to nurture irrationality and emotionality, which historically had no place in “proper” academic endeavors. In this chapter we reflect on the concept of desire and how it trespasses knowledge production and life. We do this by meditating on the work of four authors who have devoted their lifes to the understanding of desire: Esther Perel, Helen Fisher , Martha Nussbaum and Giles Deleuze; a psychologist, a biologist-anthropologist and two philosophers.
