Abstract

Thomas Østergaard and Christina Dan call for a revision of design curricular to meet present demands for sustainable development as they argue for the important future role of designers in circular economy transitioning. However, the chapter sheds light on how institutional settings may impede transition to education for sustainable development as uptake of new practices is difficult and often a victim of organizational inertia. Using VIA Design & Business as case, Thomas Østergaard and Christina Dan point out key pathways that may break institutions free and importantly motivate teachers toward adopting inclusive and participatory approaches into their teaching practices for the benefit of students.
