Abstract

In recent years there has been a growing focus on talent development in the educational sector in Denmark. The search for talented nurses has been necessary due to an increase in chronic diseases and comorbidity among the population along with the movement of healthcare activities from hospitals to the primary healthcare sector. The purpose of this study is to gain knowledge about the kind of talent – nurses in primary healthcare sector – needed in the future. Four group interviews with 17 nurses at different organizational levels were conducted and analyzed using a method inspired by Ricoeur.
Herein emerged five themes: Helicopter perspective; managing relations; courage to knowledge translation; practicing specialized and generalized nursing; and reflection, innovation and improvement. Findings and existing research show that talent development in nursing education should not only focus on specialized nursing concepts, such as clinical leaders and quality improvement, but also on more general and personal characteristics such
as courage, responsibility and humility.
