Abstract
This article examines the implications of the climate crisis for pedagogy from a life‑enlightenment (livsoplysning) perspective. The point of departure is that the climate crisis, together with a range of other, interconnected crises, establishes new conditions for the aims of Bildung in the broadest sense. The article first outlines several points of orientation concerning the planetary crises and the new questions they pose to society and education. It then returns to the history of philosophy to explore possible standpoints for such a renewed discussion of Bildung. In a re-reading of three classics (Plato, Spinoza, and Merleau-Ponty), it points toward the dissolution of dualisms and a shared interconnectedness between the creative and the created, between nature and the human. The discussion is related to deep ecology and offers proposals regarding the place of Bildung in times of crisis, and (hopefully) thereafter.
