    Abstract

This paper presents some results from a Danish R&D project. In three municipalities researchers for four years have been using lesson studies to lift teachers' teaching skills in science. A "de-privatization of the classroom" and a change of teacher culture seems to be a necessity for competence development supported by this method as well as the use of relevant scaffolding tools that can curb the development of teaching skills. Empirical evidence indicate, that projects seeking to develop teaching competence at school, are complex and need support and cooperation between the school's strategic, tactical and didactic levels.
