Abstract
Measuring Recovery following Hip Fracture in Post-Acute Settings: What are the best measures?
Rehabilitation of patients with hip fracture in the post-acute setting, as they move out of acute care and into community based facilities is currently variable, and may be driven by system pressures as opposed to evidence-based approaches. We need to 1) understand patient’s limitations and goals as they move away from the acute care sector, 2) continue to provide appropriate interventions until they have attained maximal recovery and then 3) be able to measure the impact of interventions.
learning objectives of this workshop are to discuss:
1) The need for standardization in measurement of recovery after hip fracture (and other fragility fractures) in both clinical practice and research to improve the body of evidence and promote adoption of best practice in post-acute settings
2) Outcomes measures that are useful in both clinical practice and research to measure outcomes of importance to patients and providers in measuring recovery after hip fracture (and other fragility fractures)
3) Ongoing challenges in selecting and implementing standardized measurement of post-acute outcomes.
