Abstract
In 2009 the conception of competence for the first time will be used in the objects of clause of Mathematics. On this background the aim of this dissertation is to:
identify coherences in the teachers teaching act in mathematics, when this act is characterized by aiming at developing the pupils competences
identify the challenges teachers face when they teach with the aim of competences.
The dissertation discusses theoretical concepts, which include an orientation towards competence and the development of competence.
The dissertation includes a qualitative investigation based on Grounded Theory and two focus group interview.
Through the analysis of the empirical data, the core category was defined as: ”The individual learning of the pupils construct the agenda of the teachers planning, implementation and evaluation of their teaching”.
Another five categories related to the core category appeared through the analysis: ”Aim for the pupils”, Expectations of and demands to the teachers”, ”Evaluation”, ”Methods” and ”Communities of practise”.
The investigation shows that the teachers with great responsibility teach with the aim of competences – focusing on the individual learning of the pupils in general.
Further on the investigation shows that it is very important to be able to distinguish between the two didactical concepts: Differentiation of the pupils and differentiation in teaching and the practical implications of these concepts. Especially when the teaching aims at competences.
