Opening the complexities of evaluations: using participatory action research in three Danish Organizations to co-create new insights

Abstract

Purpose To develop new understandings of measurement and evaluation of strategic communication through workshops with three Danish organizations experienced with conducting evaluations.

Design/methodology/approach A participatory action research (PAR) method was used to enrich both researchers and participants in two rounds of workshops in three Danish organization.

Preliminary findings Evaluations serve many different purposes. From documentation to developing learnings. Practitioners appreciate models that take complexities of evaluations into account and at the same time they also wish models to be simple, easy to understand and in Danish.

Practical implications Flexible evaluations models that can be adjusted to different contexts, objectives and purposes are needed.

Originality One of the first studies to conduct Participatory Actions Research in three different types of organizations to co-create knowledge about evaluations.
