Abstract

The Doing Good Business Diamond (DGBD) is a framework for developing sustainable business models. At its center is the Business Model Canvas (BMC), reflecting how businesses capture profits by creating value. The BMC is integrated in a triple-bottom line model, since a sustainable business model needs to take account of not only profits, but also planet and people. BMC is also integrated in a Doing Good Business (DGB) model, since a sustainable business model must entail coherence between its value creation, its governance structure and the behavior of management and stakeholders. Furthermore, a sustainable business model is aware of external drivers, it rewards and respects all human and physical inputs to the process of creating value, it creates value that lives up to certain ethical standards, and finally it creates more value for planet and people than is captured as profits by business owners.
