Areas of research are currently focused on improving teaching practice. This involves implementing the more complex and extended applications of the learning management system, implementing flipped classroom and blended learning practice and using the metadata to measure quality performance.
Outside this institution, I am involved in several commercial renewable energy projects, such as a 300MW offshore windfarm development, the implementation of a smart energy system for Aero in Denmark, and a tidal energy project.

My teaching style reflects that I am trying to deliver less lecture time and reserve class for more personalised two-way interaction. I provide instruction by a variety of means; video, directed research or role play, and utilise my face time with students with enhanced metacognitive activity. This reflects my belief that lectures are less efficient than interactions and hands on activity for learning.
Primarily, I try to give students practical experience rather than information in the areas relevant to my modules. Students complete my modules with an understanding of sustainable practice that is relevant to their intended working environment. I teach them to question everything, techniques for determining good from bad and the wider context of their future role.
In business understanding, this implies that students will appreciate the wider context of their role in a business, and unlock creative or entrepreneurial spirit. For renewable or sustainable energy, I help students understand the context that technology must fit into in order for it to be accepted and play a positive role in their future employment context.
