(Re)taste of place

The interest of this paper is to establish an approach that paves the way for a renewed understanding of overlooked perspectives in the existing interpretations of the relationship between places and food. The paper falls in three parts: an investigation into the connection between food and place, starting with considerations on geographical origin and moving towards an understanding of place not only as a where, but as a point of departure for experience. The second part examines the role of taste in the establishment of a link between food and place, moving from taste in terms of categorisations to an understanding of taste as a capacity for interpreting our surroundings. The final part presents an outline of taste as re-taste. The point is to carry out a philosophical investigation into how links between food and place are established
