Abstract
In Denmark, mathematical awareness is a competency area in kindergarten class (ages 5-6 years).
This study explores the competency area and its development in collaboration with kindergarten class
teachers, applying a critical research perspective to identify potentials and challenges across three
collaborative processes: pedagogical imagination, practical organisation and explorative reasoning.
The study shows that knowledge from both the kindergarten class teachers and the researcher affects
the collaboration, but the way it is expressed varies across the three processes.
